I needed a replacement make-up table countertop.
Other places I contacted insisted they had to come out to measure when all I needed was a very basic rectangular piece to replace a Formica piece. I called Doug, at Carlson, and he was very accomodating, suggesting I consider solid surface (which I opted for) rather than Formica.
I went to their shop to place the order. Normally they require a deposit for their work. But since Doug hadn't told me they don't take cash or credit cards, and I didn't have a blank check with me, he waived the deposit. Despite the holiday season, my top was ready for pick up earlier than promised.

I wanted to replace my plastic laminate countertops and stainless steel sink in my kitchen with solid surface counters and a solid surface integral (one piece) sink.
My phone call got a quick response from Wayne Carlson, who arranged to come by later that same day. I selected colors and styles and then went to their shop a couple of days later to give a 50% deposit and schedule things. A few days later John came to my house to measure and cut a countertop template, and Bob their plumber and Patrick the electrician also came to look at what needed to be done. I scheduled a time for Patrick to return and do the necessary wiring for my new disposal.
From the initial contact to the installation was about 2 weeks. The installation itself took roughly 3 hours. At every step along the way, Wayne stayed in contact with me. He was very flexible about scheduling things - I had a broken ankle and had some mobility limitations, but he worked with me to get this done quickly.
The crew was quick and cleaned up after themselves meticulously. John had discovered that the countertop wouldn't fit in the building elevator, so they carried it up the stairs to the second floor.
They did an excellent job and I consider it well worth the cost. These are great people to work with.

I went to Carlson's shop on Aug 27, 2009 and was shown various samples of countertops and where the work was done. I even met and spoke with John, who would be installing my kitchen countertop. I gave them the necessary information and the countertop was installed on Aug 31st. Their prices were competitive with other companies.
These are the people that you want to hire to do a good job. They were professional and accomodating from the very first visit through the installation. It was a pleasure working with them. John is very knowledgeable and did an an excellent job installing the kitchen countertop. Doug stopped by to see if everything was installed to our satisfaction.
Do empty all drawers and cabinets under the countertop. And do realize that most cabinets are not level and installations need to be done by qualified installers--that is if you want to avoid difficulties. I just had a door installed (by another company) and found out too late that the installer was not qualified to do the job. It turned into a nightmare and I was charged for all his time to do a poor job. Just emphasizing that installation is MOST important.
Without a doubt Carlson Countertops has my recommendation.

The scope of our project was having Carlson remove and discard our old kitchen countertop and install a new Staron solid surface countertop, sink, and cooktop.
We drove to Carlson's shop in Skokie and spoke with Doug Carlson. He was very pleasant, and went over our options for a new countertop, replacing the one I've had for 25 years. He took his time with us, we agreed with their price, and paid the required 50% deposit.
John, their installer, came to my house to take exact measurements and make a template of the countertop.
A few days later, we had to put the countertop on hold, as we were purchasing a new cooktop, and did not know what the exact cut-out size needed to be. After I learned of the size, they proceeded with making my new countertop.
After setting up an installation date, Carlson was there again, right on time, and the installation only took about 3 hours.
Throughout this entire process from purchasing to installation, Doug and John did a wonderful job of communicating just what steps they were taking on the project, and what the projected time of completion would be.

Carlson Custom Countertops replaced our kitchen countertops with new white plastic laminate countertops. After visiting their countertop shop, they recommended other suppliers to purchase a new kitchen sink and faucet from. To make it even easier, the plumbing fixtures were delivered directly to Carlson's shop and delivered by them to our house along with our new countertops.
Wayne came to our house at the appointed time to quote the job, their measurer came to the house at his appointed time to do his work, and their installer and plumber arrived on time to remove and install our new kitchen countertops. The installation of the countertops, sink, range, and some additional trim was all done by noon. I would recommend Carlson to others, and I would use them again...my highest recommendation.

Carlson removed and disposed of a long U-shaped kitchen countertop and replaced it with a continuous surface Corian countertop with a small angled sink in one corner. John & Doug took perfect measurements and Mike removed the old faucet and replaced it with a new one. The removal and plumbing hookup were well priced extra costs.
This was a delightful experience. Doug Carlson came to look at and discuss the job. He is a true professional, straightforward and knowledgeable with an open, friendly demeanor. I'd already selected a material and color but he brought sample swatches and told me about the relative merits of other surfaces.
John came to measure and exhibited the same characteristics. He helped me make a good decision about the edge treatment. He took thorough measurements of the U-shaped countertop with the sink hole.
The color I initially selected was out of stock at the supplier so I chose another one which also took longer to get than anticipated. Doug kept me up to date on every development, he even had the supplier call me to apologize for the material delay.
John and Mike did the installation (Mike is just as great as the other guys!). They were on time, thorough, and quick. I couldn't be happier with the quality of work, level of professionalism, price, and end product.

Carlson created three separate countertops for me. One was 22 feet long. They came out several times to personally measure and review the installation/coordination with my plumbing contractor. They turned my job around in less than two weeks.
Wow! I have worked with numerous contractors over the past 25 years and in 4 different houses, but no one compares to Wayne Carlson and his team of committed employees, including John. I first called Carlson after seeing their high marks on Angie's List and Wayne spent 20 minutes with me on the phone explaining in detail the pros and cons of various countertop options. He then invited us to his workshop/showroom, where we met him and his very knowledgeable, friendly, smart employees he has working with him in this third generation business. Wayne then personally visited our home to measure the countertops and later sent his right hand man (John) back to finalize the sizes after our farm style sink was installed--with its non-square edges. John made a complete template of our 22 foot island and two "back area" countertops. They fabricated the countertops just days afterward and delivered them in one piece aboard their specially fitted truck.
I just had a very high end kitchen designer here and she was completely blown away by the beauty and quality of their work--she could not find the seams they needed to make to fit the countertop(s) into position.
To say we are thrilled is a complete understatement. Wayne and his team should be very, very, proud of their craftsmanship!

Carlson installed new Corian kitchen countertops complete with all the needed plumbing connections. We found them on "Angie's List" and went to their office/shop. They do not have a showroom because most of their work is with contractors, but they do welcome retail business. They gave me quotes based on my measurements right on the spot. They came out to do their measurements in 4-5 days and the final installation was done within a week after that (including a holiday). The installation was done in an hour and a half and was an excellent job. We are very satisfied.

Carlson was terrific to work with from day 1. After doing some online research to identify the type of countertop we wanted, we dropped by their Skokie office with our choice and asked them if they could find the special pattern counter material, cut and install a unique size counter for a recreational room of ours. They were able to quickly source the material and get everything measured, created and installed within 1 week. They gave us several options on edging but never pressured us to upgrade trims. The installer was very knowledgeable and professional, as was our salesman. We felt we were in the hands of old pros who had a lot of experience and pride in doing good work. We were experiencing some unexpected delays in having our kitchen remodeled by another contractor, so it appeared that we may not have countertops for the holiday season, and we were expecting over 16 people for dinner. We went to a couple of box stores and they told us it would take 4-6 weeks to get our countertop installed. This is to thank you at Carlson for the outstanding job done in the completion of my kitchen remodeling.
After going through a pretty bad experience with my original contractor, I called Carlson. Immediately thereafter the salesperson contacted me, then gave me the price for the installation of my new Corian kitchen countertops and Corian kitchen sink within a few hours.
The original contractor told me that it would take at least four weeks to get the job completed after the measurements were taken. This was not the scenario with Carlson - my new countertops were installed three days after I called!
